A New Commercial Partnership to Support Local Councils

by Ian Charlton

We are delighted to announce that The OT Practice is now a proud commercial partner of Foundations, the national body for home improvement agencies in England. This collaboration represents our continued commitment to supporting councils in delivering effective, person-centred adaptations through the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG).

As a leading independent occupational therapy practice in the UK, we are dedicated to helping individuals achieve independence and safety in their own homes. By joining forces with Foundations, we aim to provide enhanced support to local councils, addressing the challenges of long waiting lists, increasing demand, and complex cases.

Helping Councils Deliver Essential Services

In their role as the national body for home improvement agencies and adaptations, funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government, Foundations works alongside professionals to deliver practical, effective solutions. Their mission is to help councils, and their partners provide life-changing services that enable people to live safely and independently in their homes. This partnership underscores both parties shared commitment to supporting councils in their vital work and driving innovation within the home adaptations sector.

Building on Experience and Looking to the Future

In 2025, we look forward to engaging with delegates and showcasing our experience and solutions at Foundations’ Roadshows, where we will listen to the challenges faced by councils and share how our services can help address them.

We are also excited to build on our independent thought leadership, such as the white paper we launched at the National Children and Adults Services Conference (NCASC), which explored the challenges and opportunities in OT waiting lists including DFG delivery.

Nikki Thompson, Executive Director at The OT Practice:

Nikki Thompson "This partnership with Foundations is a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our support for local councils and their communities. By working together, we can help councils overcome some of the most pressing challenges in DFG delivery, such as lengthy waiting lists and complex cases. Our shared commitment to excellence and innovation ensures we are well-positioned to deliver real impact in this space.”

Paul Smith, Director at Foundations, added:

Paul Smith“We’re thrilled to welcome The OT Practice as a commercial partner of Foundations. It’s great to add them to our growing network of organisations who share our commitment to improving the delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants. Their support will help us continue hosting free events for local authority staff across the country, providing practical solutions and driving innovation in home adaptations.”
